Overview

Loudoun Soccer is pleased to offer enrollment in a Challenge division for 5th and 6th  grade players. The Challenge 2 division is a recreational program, intended for those children more seriously focused on soccer, and for players (and parents) who are willing to make a stronger commitment to prioritizing development above the social aspects of youth soccer.

This program is NOT recommended for the new or inexperienced soccer player.

The primary differences between the Recreation and Challenge divisions are the level of play and the distances to travel for away games. Coaches for Challenge teams are volunteers.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: January 21, 2020 at 8 PM. No late registrations accepted.

FEE: $184.00 ($166.00 + $18.00 Loudoun County Parks & Rec Fee)

Registration and Evaluation Process - Spring 2020

To be eligible for Challenge, each player must register before the deadline of January 21, 2020.  Any players new to the challenge program, must attend one of the scheduled evaluations.

No late registrations are permitted in Challenge, due to the evaluation dates, and to allow for the appropriate time to form teams and assign coaches. The purpose of the evaluation session is to assess each player’s abilities so that balanced teams may be formed within each Town of Play (Ashburn, Leesburg, Purcellville, and South Riding). The Recreation division may still be available for players who sign up after the Challenge registration date (registration is first come, first serve).

Challenge Division Commitment/Requirements -Spring 2020

Please take note when registering for our Challenge league:

  • All players are REQUIRED to undergo a skills evaluation over the summer. The information obtained at this evaluation will be used to place players evenly among the teams within each Town of Play.
  • Players MUST register in the nearest Town of Play as to their home address.
  • The level of play in Challenge is typically higher than in Recreation; however, players are placed on balanced teams within each town of play and are not turned away regardless of ability if there is room on a team.
  • No Special Requests (for specific coaches, teammates, etc.) will be honored.  Once placed, requests to be reassigned to a different Challenge team will NOT be accommodated.  Any player who wishes to change teams after being placed may be re-assigned to a Recreational level team, depending on available space.
  • Teams will be formed by town/region (Ashburn, Leesburg, Purcellville, and South Riding) and all efforts will be made to place players on a team in their local town; if teams in the local town of play are full, a player may be placed on a team outside of their requested town of play.
  • Teams are scheduled to play inter-regional games (Ashburn vs. Leesburg, South Riding vs. Purcellville, etc.), which may require travel greater than in the regular Recreation level.

Spring 2020 Challenge Evaluation Dates

Players who wish to participate in the Challenge division must first register (registration deadline: January 21, 2020 at 8 PM). Individuals who participated in an evaluation during Summer 2019 do not need to attend a Winter evaluation.

Spring 2020 Playoffs

Spring 2020 Playoff Details:

Format:

  • Every team participates.
  • Using standings from the regular season (first seven weeks of season), teams are placed into brackets for a single-elimination playoff (Saturday 6/6).
  • Multiple brackets will be formed. Champions and Finalists will be declared in each bracket.
  • Teams will play no more than two games on each day.

Playoff Brackets:
 TBD

Regular Season Standings:

Standings are used from the regular season to seed teams into playoffs. During the regular season, teams are awarded three (3) points for a win, one (1) point for a draw, and zero (0) points for a loss. Divisions with teams scheduled to play an uneven number of games (e.g. an odd-numbered-team division, where one or more teams play an additional game), points will be prorated.

In the event of a tie in points at the end of the regular season, the following method will be used to break the tie. If there is a multi-team tie (3 or more teams), proceed to the #2 tie breaker until the multi-team tie is broken. Once a team is eliminated from the tie-breaker, the process repeats until two teams remain, and then the process begins again.

1) Winner of head to head competition of the two teams tied. (Disregard if more than two teams are tied – proceed to #2)
2) Most wins
3) Goal Differential (maximum 4 per game)
4) Fewest number of goals allowed
5) Fewest Red and Yellow cards received
6) Most shutouts
7) Coin flip

Playoff Schedule:

  • Games will be played on Saturday June 6th. Times and locations will announced at a later date.
  • Match-ups were determined immediately following the final game of the regular season.

Rules:

  • All rules from the regular season (playing time, goalkeeper rotation, etc.) will be enforced for the playoffs.
  • Additionally: any games ending in a tie will proceed directly to Kicks from the Mark (penalty kicks) to declare a winner. No overtime periods are played.
