About Challenge 2

The Loudoun Soccer Rec Challenge 2 program is available to 5th and 6th grade players who are more experienced and are more seriously focused on soccer, and for players (and parents) who are willing to make a stronger commitment to prioritizing development above the social aspects of youth soccer. The primary differences between the Recreation and Challenge divisions are the level of play and the distances to travel for away games. Coaches for Challenge teams are volunteers.

Challenge is NOT for new or inexperienced soccer players; Rec 2 is a more appropriate program.

Challenge Division Expectations:

  • Families must register before the deadline.
  • Families must choose their nearest Town of Play as to their home address.
  • Teams will be formed by town/region (Ashburn, Leesburg, Purcellville, and South Riding) and all efforts will be made to place players on a team in their local town; if teams in the local town of play are full, a player may be placed on a team outside of their requested town of play.
  • Special requests (specific coaches, teammates, etc.) are NOT considered. Once placed, requests to be reassigned to a different Challenge team will NOT be accommodated. Players who wish to change teams may be transferred to a Rec 2 team if space is available
  • Teams are scheduled to play inter-regional games (Ashburn vs. Leesburg, South Riding vs. Purcellville, etc.). Additional travel within the county may be required for games.
  • All players must attend an annual evaluation session. Challenge is not a selection program. However, evaluations are used to form balanced teams within each town of play.

Challenge Evaluations:

All players in Challenge MUST attend an annual evaluation session. These occur in the Summer prior to the Fall season, and in the Winter prior to the Spring season. An evaluation date is selected during the registration process.
