Micro & Mini | Pre-School & Kindergarten

Check out this document for FAQs and important information on the Micro/Mini program and see the links at the bottom of this page for further resources.

Overview

The Mini Soccer Program (Minis) is designed to teach basic soccer skills to our youngest players.

Launched in 1996, the program consists primarily of sessions held on Saturdays, led by professional trainers at six convenient locations: Ashburn, Brambleton, Leesburg, Purcellville, South Riding, and Sterling. It is organized as two separate divisions: Micros (Pre-Schoolers) and Minis (Pre-K and Kindergarten).

Sessions consist of developmentally appropriate activities and a philosophy summed up in one word: FUN! The Mini Soccer Program is structured and designed specifically for the youngest player to receive more touches on the ball in activities that incorporate movement – which increases enjoyment and participation.  Creating a safe and positive environment is critical so that players can learn the game of soccer and develop their passion for the sport.

It is Loudoun Soccer’s intention to provide an extremely FUN, non-stressful environment for the players which will build your child’s confidence and instill a love of the game. Check out this document for FAQs and important information on the Micro/Mini program and see the links at the bottom of this page for further resources.

Kindergarten age group also have a weeknight practice – either 5:30-6:30 PM or 6:30-7:30 PM (varies depending on volunteer coach’s request). Practice locations may differ from the Saturday session fields.

Schedules (Saturday sessions and weeknight practices) will be released after registration closes and teams are formed.

All efforts are made to accommodate special requests (coach or teammate requests), as long as they are submitted with registrations. It’s much easier to do so when they’re collected at registration, as opposed to after teams are formed. Due to the nature of the program, we cannot accommodate requests for Saturday times.

Volunteer Coaches

Coaching young children in their first soccer experience can be a very rewarding.  All coaches are welcome – regardless of your soccer knowledge or experience, or your experience working with children.

All volunteer coaches are provided with equipment and support – from the professional trainers who can answer your questions at the field and serve as role models for you to follow once you lead your team’s sessions, to the online Coaching Education Resource Center found on this website, and the pre-season clinics the club hosts to start each season.

It is our sincere hope that while we are instilling a love for soccer in your child, we are also instilling it in you. For more information on coaching in this program, see below.

Coaching Information

This area is for MSP Coaches and Assistant Coaches.

Fall 2019 Pre-Season Coach Meetings:

All coaches (head and assistant) are encouraged to attend a pre-season meeting. Head to the Coaches area of our website (under About) for more information on meetings. Coaches should attend dressed to participate in the on-field clinics – wear athletic clothing, and note-taking materials (notepad, pencil, etc.)

Coaching Education Resource Center – Loudoun Soccer provides a wealth of coaching education information to its coaches, including team management documents, sample practice activities, and other helpful details.

Coach Log-In: coaches can view their team information within the same user account used to enroll their child. Once logged in, click Volunteer, then your Team Page link.

Dick’s Team Manager – Download and use the App: Coaches can utilize the free Dick’s Team Manager app to manage schedules, player availability, and other details through their mobile phone.

Those who wish to use the app should wait till at least till March 25 before importing their schedule and roster from their Blue Sombrero team page, in the event any changes occur. Schedules can be reimported, but roster adjustments will need to be made manually.

CLICK HERE for a full list of helpful articles on the app.

Here’s an article on importing your roster – wait till the 25th to do so. Coaches will need to manually add or remove players from the app if their roster changes after it’s imported. Here’s an article on re-importing your schedule if needed.

Kindergarten Practice Schedules: once-per-week weeknight schedule information will be posted here later in August. Teams are assigned practice space in their town of play:

  • Ashburn
  • Brambleton

Coaches with highlighted information – please contact Jamie Rawson at [email protected] to update your practice request. If you have issues with your assigned time, please contact Jamie Rawson at [email protected].

Medical Release Form – print out the medical release form to have each family complete information regarding their child. Keep this document with you for each session in the event an emergency occurs.

Medals/End of Season Awards – The medals will be collected at your location on the final session of the season. You can hand them out on the field directly after your final session or have a team party and hand them out at this time. It's up to you.

Here’s are some tips:

1) survey your parents to see who is going to attend the last session. If there are going to be players missing and you are going to distribute them with pomp & circumstance, you may want to do it at the 6th session;
2) if you are not going to attend the last session, you should do it at the 6th session;
3) if you have players whose parents have been motivating them by telling them they will get a medal (trophy) if they play, you may want to wait until the 7th session;
4) hide the medals from the players until you hand them out;
5) wait until the end of the session to hand them out;
6) please be careful if you demonstrate how they can put the ribbon on their finger and twirl the medal in the air.

Snacks – Work with your parents to organize a snack schedule at the beginning of the season. Have each family sign up to bring a healthy snack or drink to at least one of the 7 sessions. Please make sure to take into account all possible allergies and dietary constraints of players AND family members when purchasing. Have a discussion or start an email chain with all families so that everyone is aware. Don’t forget to clean up afterwards!

MSP Director – Please contact Daryn Patricio at [email protected], 703-777-9977 ext.112. We appreciate feedback so if you see errors or have comments/ complaints/ compliments/ suggestions please let us know. The coaches, assistant coaches, parents and trainers have worked together to develop the best soccer program available to families in Loudoun county and only you can help us continue to meet and exceed that commitment.
