Rep The Red Award

About the Rep The Red Award

The Rep The Red Award is a seasonal honor bestowed upon a coach, player, referee,
volunteer or parent in Loudoun Soccer who, through their actions, embodies the club’s core values:

  • Fun!  It’s why we play
  • Integrity – Character and Principled
  • Fairness – Sportsmanship and Inclusiveness
  • Teamwork – Stronger Together
  • Stewardship – of the Game and the Community

Individuals can be nominated for selection during the Fall and Spring seasons – individual
winners will be named in November for the
Fall, and June for the Spring. Winners will be recognized (in our newsletter, via Social Media, etc.) for their efforts in living our values, and Repping the Red.

NOVEMBER 2019 REP THE RED AWARD WINNER

Congratulations to Dominic Rutan, our November 2019 Rep the Red Award winner!
Coach Dominic oversees the 2011G Gold and the 2009G Gray teams in the Travel program.

Coach Dominic’s success as a coach stems from the relationships he develops between him and
his players with his patient and caring personality, and by staying after training to work with
players on individual areas and concerns; and within his team by stressing the importance of
playing hard and with passion, improving, and most of all having fun, and his clear communication
with his team families.

He represents all five of the club’s core values: Fun, Integrity, Fairness, Teamwork, and Stewardship.
Congratulations Coach Dominic!

OCTOBER 2019 REP THE RED AWARD WINNER

Congratulations to Todd Arriza, our October 2019 Rep the Red Award winner!

Todd is a former Rec coach, and currently serves as the Team Administrator for the club’s
2003B Red team in our
Travel program. He has gone above and beyond those responsibilities – from handling reams of
international clearance paperwork allowing children born outside of the United States to play
domestically, to coordinating transportation of players with challenging family situations
(including chauffeuring them himself), to helping families paint field lines each Friday – and
his communication with all of his team’s families has been extraordinary.

He has done all of this quietly and without fanfare, because of the positives it brings
the players and families part
of this team. He represents Integrity, Fairness, and Stewardship,
and is a deserving winner of the Rep the Red award.

SEPTEMBER 2019 REP THE RED AWARD WINNER
Congratulations to Matt Falter and Brian Partlow, our September 2019 Rep the Red Award winners!

Matt and Brian were long-time volunteer coaches in our Rec and Challenge programs, and like most
parent coaches stepped away from that role after their respective sons recently joined the club’s
Travel program. A last-minute, unexpected coach vacancy in our Rec program this Fall could have
led a team of 5th grade boys being without a coach, but Matt and Brian graciously accepted the
request to help coach the team, and lend their guidance and experience.

While the majority of our Rec teams are led by volunteers directly connected to a participating child
(as a parent, sibling, guardian, etc.), several teams are led by community members – past coaches
and players who want to continue giving back to the game of soccer, and to the overall community.
For living our values of Fairness, Teamwork, and Stewardship, we’re pleased to honor Matt and Brian
as our September 2019 Rep the Red award winners.

JUNE 2019 REP THE RED AWARD WINNER

Congratulations to our 6th Grade Ashburn Strikers Rec team, the winner of our June Rep The Red Award!

The team took time off from their busy practice schedule to make teddy bears at the Fair Oaks Build-a-Bear.
They made 22 bears that will be donated to the Emergency Department at Berkeley Medical Center in
Martinsburg, WV.
Each bear was hand made for young pediatric patients when they visit the Emergency Department and includes
a “get well soon” note. The Strikers Assistant Coach, Missy Rabinek, is a Physician’s Assistant at the hospital.

The Strikers players are Ria Athreya, Rujuta Bhakre, Ella Dearmon, Gretchen Dohr, Kaely Godard, Anika
Goparaju, Brooke Masternick, Lindsay Masternick, Rachel Niermann, Hailey Pullen, Elizabeth Rexer, Alana
Rhinehart, Sarah Robbins, Shinali Shah, Kayla Taeschner, and Mia Vanegas.

We are proud of the girls for this awesome initiative that encapsulates our core values of Teamwork and
Stewardship. Congratulations to the team!

MAY 2019 REP THE RED AWARD WINNER

Congratulations to Paula Earle, the May winner of our Rep the Red Award!
Paula is a long-time volunteer coach in our Rec program. She began coaching her granddaughter's team nine years ago in our
Pre-School Micro program, and has been a positive presence on the sideline ever since (her granddaughter is now a 6th
grader). Her commitment to the community extends off the field, as she has been a member of the club's Coaching School of
Excellence in previous seasons. Coach Paula represents all five of the club's core values each season as a coach: Fun, Integrity, Teamwork, Fairness, and Stewardship.
Congratulations Coach Paula, our May Rep the Red Award winner!

APRIL 2019 REP THE RED AWARD WINNER
Congratulations to Raaga Kodali, the April winner of our Rep the Red Award!
Raaga plays in the Travel program on the 06G Red team. She is recognized for creating a donation platform with Asha-Jyothi (a Chantilly-based charity) to benefit the “Kickin Cancer for Caoilinn” campaign. In just four short months, Raaga raised $5,000, money that will go toward the medical care of Caoilinn McLane, a former Loudoun Soccer player who is battling cancer once again after having beaten Pediatric Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) over one year ago; she was admitted to Children’s National Medical Center in late July. Caolinn’s father Jim is a longtime Travel coach for the club, and a former coach of Raaga.
Raaga’s selfless and mature act represents Stewardship and Teamwork, two of the club’s core values. Congratulations Raaga, our April Rep the Red Award winner!

FALL 2018 REP THE RED AWARD WINNERS

November 2018: Brendan Borsuk
Congratulations to Brendan Borsuk, the November winner of our Rep the Red Award!

Brendan plays for the 2010B Red team in the club’s Travel program, and is recognized for the charitable donations
he recently collected. Having visited Kenya with his family last summer and seeing firsthand how little children in other
parts of the world had, Brendan was motivated to give back. Having researched sports charities online with his parents,
he selected Charity Ball, an organization that seeks to put soccer balls in hands of poverty-stricken children around the
world (and founded by a 10-year old boy who was motivated after visiting Africa with his family, and saw the joy a soccer
ball could bring them).

Brendan asked family and friends as part of his birthday celebration to donate online to his Charity Ball fundraiser, or bring
a new soccer ball to his birthday party. Through his generous friends and their families, Brendan raised $550 for Charity
Ball and collected 10 soccer balls.
Brendan’s efforts represent the club’s core values – Fairness, Teamwork, and Stewardship – and are remarkable, especially
for a child his age.

Congratulations Brendan, our November Rep the Red Award winner!

October 2018: Chris Dearie
Congratulations to Chris Dearie, our October Rep The Red Award winner!

Chris Dearie coaches a 4th grade boys Rec 2 team, and is a passionate volunteer coach who connects with all of his players,
making each individual child feel like a valuable member of the team. He preaches teamwork, discipline, and respect for the
rules, while helping each individual player improve his skills throughout the season. He is a positive, encouraging, and motivational coach.

Congratulations to Chris for representing the club’s core values, and instilling them in his players.

September 2018: Martha Raterman
Congratulations to Martha Raterman, the September winner of our Rep the Red Award!

Martha is honored for leading the 06G Black Travel team with the help of 05G Black in their efforts to raise money for the
medical care of Caoilinn McLane, a former Loudoun Soccer player who is battling cancer once again after having beaten
Pediatric Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) over one year ago; she was admitted to Children’s National Medical Center in late
July. Caolinn’s father Jim is a longtime Travel coach for the club.

Martha and the teams organized a “Kicking Cancer for Caoilinn” fundraiser at Travel Training Academy on Wednesday 9/19,
where they collected donations toward Caoilinn’s medical care in exchange for gold colored shoe laces, which help raise
awareness for childhood cancer.

The fundraiser raised over $7300, and also taught our players the values of Teamwork and Stewardship toward a worthy cause.

Congratulations Martha, our September Rep the Red Award winner!
