Important Update Re: Spectators

Late Friday, November 13, Governor Northam announced new state-wide restrictions to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, and further clarifications were issued in the hours immediately after this announcement.

Relevant to youth and recreational sports, on-field participation in youth sports has not changed. However a reduction in public and private gatherings from 250 to 25 has occurred, meaning that for youth sports no more than 25 spectators (non-participants) are permitted at a field at one time.

We recognize that many of our teams have completed their Fall season, and these immediate changes may not impact your child and their team. However, we have several teams still playing through this week and some through the end of 2020, and adjustments must now be made to ensure the health and safety of our members, and compliance with this Executive Order.

In regards to Loudoun Soccer-hosted events (remaining team practices, home league games, etc.) now and for the remainder of 2020: no spectators are permitted at the field. Individuals who are permitted include players, coaches, designated team representatives (team administrator, team videographer, etc. on game day only), athletic trainers, referees, and designated club and facility staff. Parents who remain on site must wait inside their vehicles.

Families of younger players (e.g. U9 and U10) are permitted to walk their child from the car to the field (and may meet them at the gate at the end of the event), but must return to their vehicle immediately afterward (similar to the procedure used in June when we first returned to play).

In regards to outside events (away league games, tournaments, etc.): spectator rules will be dictated by the event host, and communicated once available. We anticipate a similar no-spectator-rule to be enforced, so families should plan accordingly.

All other Loudoun Soccer Safe Return to Play protocols remain in place, including completing the Pre-Play Questionnaire; masks/face coverings when not actively participating on the field; and 10 feet physical distancing whenever practicable, among others.  You can review our Safe Return to Play protocols here.

We are reviewing and updating our policies for 2021 events – including both our indoor and outdoor programs – and awaiting on additional guidance from local and state authorities before finalizing. Details will be shared as quickly as possible.

We thank everyone for their cooperation and their continued efforts in allowing our children a safe return to play. We wish good luck to teams concluding their seasons over the remaining weeks of the year, and for the safety and heath of all of our families.
