The Loudoun Soccer Recreation program provides the opportunity for boys and girls to develop basic soccer skills and teamwork in a stress-free and fun environment. It is divided into two subprograms: Rec 1 (1st-2nd grade) and Rec 2 (3rd-6th grade). Teams are typically organized by gender and grade (1st grade boys, 1st grade girls, 2nd grade boys, 2nd grade girls, etc.) and by town of play (Leesburg, Ashburn, South Riding, Purcellville, etc.).

Teams practice twice per week, generally held at a community school or park, and play their games on Saturday (eight games in Fall, seven in Spring). Game locations may require additional travel within the county, depending on the number of teams formed in each town of play (e.g. Purcellville teams playing in Leesburg).

Rec 2: 3rd grade through 6th grade

  • Teams have the opportunity to participate in an end-of-season in-house tournament for an additional expense.
  • Playing Formats:
    • Grades 3-4: 7v7
    • Grades 5-6: 9v9

Full sided 11v11 matches begin in Grades 7-8 (Classic League).

Loudoun Soccer is a long-time advocate of small-sided games, which promote player development in the younger age groups; these formats help pave for a smooth transition and a developmentally appropriate progression for skill development and tactical concepts.

Recently US Soccer launched its Player Development Initiatives for small-sided games, and the Loudoun Soccer recreational program is currently compatible with most of these recommendations, as some modifications were identified and implemented that best suit the needs of Loudoun Soccer and its players.
