Starace Named Regional Coach of the Year

Congratulations to Loudoun 97G Red and Bishop O’Connell High School girls soccer coach Alberto Starace who has been named Regional Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).  Starace has coached the O'Connell Lady Knights for 27 years, and his teams have amassed an impressive 438 wins, 72 losses and 48 ties.  The 2012 O'Connell team finished the season ranked #25 in the nation, with an 14-2-2 record. They were the WCAC runners-up, with two players (Morgan Reuther and Kara DeGuisto) named to the Washington Post All-Met first team.  Starace will be honored later this month at the NSCAA annual convention.  “Coach Starace has exemplified excellence over the last 27 years,” said O’Connell’s Athletic Director Joe Wootten.  “His teams consistently play at the highest level.  It is hard to get to the top in any sport, but to do so for more than twenty years is amazing.”
