In the Press: Loudoun 98 Boys Red team crowned Virginia State Champions

The Loudoun Soccer 98 Boys Red team are Virginia Youth Soccer Association State Champions of the U14 age group. Loudoun 98 Boys Red won a semifinal game June 1 and the championship game June 2 at Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax to claim the title. This is the second Loudoun Soccer team to win a state championship in the last eight months. The 95 Boys Red team won the U17 age group in November of 2012. Both teams have advanced to the Region I championship, set for June 27 through July 2 in Rhode Island. The 98 Boys Red team - coached by Mark Ryan - defeated McLean U14 9-1 in the semifinals, and shut out Braddock Road Youth Club 2-0 in the final. Giovanni Vasquez netted the first goal midway through the second half in the championship game following some excellent build up from Jacob Labovitz. After Loudoun goalkeeper Colin Shutler made several key saves to deny BRYC's bid to pull even, Labovitz scored off an assist by Ryan Arendt to close out the scoring.

The Loudoun Soccer 98 Boys Red team were crowned Virginia State Champions of the U14 age group on Sunday after a Semi Final win on Saturday and Finals win on Sunday. This was the second State Championship this year for Loudoun Soccer with the 95 Boys Red team winning the U17 age group in November, 2012. The 98B Red defeated McLean U14s in the Virginia Youth Soccer Association State Championship Semi Final game 9-1 on Saturday June 1st.The final was played on Sunday June 2nd vs BRYC U14B. The first half was a very tight affair with both teams pushing hard for the opening goal. Both goalkeepers produced quality saves.The 2nd half opened with end to end play. Giovanni Vasquez opened the scoring for Loudoun half way through the 2nd half, following some excellent build up play from Jacob Labovitz. BRYC pushed hard for the equalizer and Colin Shutler in the Loudoun goal made several excellent stops. The game was finished off by Loudoun in injury time. A defensive clearance was picked up by Ryan Arendt who ran half the length of the field before squaring a pass to Labovitz who finished to the bottom left corner past the BRYC keeper.
