Congratulations
to O’Connell girls soccer coach Alberto Starace who has been named
Regional Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of
America (NSCAA).Starace
has coached the Lady Knights for 27 years, and his teams have amassed
438 wins, 72 losses and 48 ties. The 2012 team finished the season
ranked #25 in the nation, with an 11-1-2 record. They were the WCAC
runners-up, with two players (Morgan Reuther and Kara DeGuisto) named to
the Washington Post All-Met first team.Starace will be honored later this month at the NSCAA annual convention.“Coach
Starace has exemplified excellence over the last 27 years,” said
O’Connell’s Athletic Director Joe Wootten. “His teams consistently play
at the highest level. It is hard to get to the top in any sport, but to
do so for more than twenty years is amazing.”
